Projects Accreditation Electricity Feasibility

A wind farm is a collection of wind turbines which are used to generate electrical power through their mechanical motions as they are pushed by the wind. The Energy generated by a wind farm can be fed directly into the general energy grid after passing through transformers.

The town of Darling is situated in the Western Cape of South Africa approximately 70km north of Cape Town. The gentle consistency of strong winds over the hills of the Swartland landscape provided an ideal opportunity for the wind farm being built to generate electricity. In 1997 the Oelsner Group with AN Windenergie GmbH of Germany and Bonus Energy from Denmark identified a near-ideal site 10km north of Darling for a wind farm. The Darling wind farm is being developed as a national demonstration project.
